THE Routes

CICLOBRAVA by orbea

The Ciclobrava sums up Girona very well. The start and finish will be located at the Sea Otter entrance, at Devesa prominade, and the route takes in a training section with small climbs, the safety provided by roads with little traffic (where the professionals living in Girona train) and new landscapes for tour cyclists, as they ride between two opposing terrains: the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean Sea.

We offer three routes, one a more demanding 141 kilometres course with 2.000D+, although it is not extreme, as the intention is that Ciclobrava tour cyclists share their time between visiting the biggest bicycle festival in Europe and cycling, a more gentle 105 kilometres route with 1.150D+, an faster track and a third track due to the demand of many participants that want to have enough time to visit the fair  without loosing the option to participate to the cyclotourist during the morning, this one will be 70 km and 800 m D+.

GRAN FONDO WORLD TOUR ®

Once again this year, the Ciclobrava by Orbea takes part in the Gran Fondo World Tour calendar. A ranking with races spread across 5 continents throughout the year. In collaboration with the Gran Fondo World Tour® Series, Pro Cycling Stats provides an amateur road bike rating which facilitate a classification of fans of the road cyclists included in the calendar.

The GRAN FONDO WORLD TOUR ® ranking is open to all cyclists, regardless of their level. You can join GFWT® for free and participate in your events. As soon as an event is completed, it is added to the scoreboard. The leader receives a leader’s jersey after each event. Each month, a randomly selected participant will receive a special gift.

THE PORTS OF CYCLOBRAVA

EMBLEMATIC PLACES ON THE TOUR

The first mountain pass on the long route is spectacular (Sant Grau d’Ardenya). Although it is not particularly difficult, it is incredibly picturesque, as riders will head deep inside the forest and, once at the top, come face to face suddenly with the Mediterranean Sea, from where they will begin a dramatic descent down to its level.

The tour will pass through Monells, a beautiful and very well-preserved village, which riders will come to after having passed along very narrow and very quiet roads, perfect for a cycling tour. Once in Monells, riders will be able to see its squares and streets, which are a great example of the evolution of architecture through history. Parts of the Romanesque walls and towers that surrounded the village still stand, while L’Oli square and various large windows date from the Gothic period.

During the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries houses were built adjoining the walls of the fortification. Today, on the façades of many of these houses their construction dates can be seen.

Film buffs will recognise the village, since the square – where the refreshments will be situated – was a location for the film Ocho Apellidos Catalanes (Eight Catalan Surnames).

Once in Girona, all that’s needed is one last push to climb Montjuic and receive your reward, spectacular views of Girona’s old town, before quickly descending and crossing the Ter river on the way to Devesa prominade.
